A fire has broken out in a shop on the flooded streets of Mandeville Gardens in Kolkata’s Gariahat area, firefighting operations are currently underway. State Minister and Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim has also arrived at the spot to oversee the situation.
Kolkata Waterlogging
Torrential rains battered Kolkata and surrounding areas on the night of Monday to Tuesday, disrupting normal life. The downpour has claimed five lives so far. Roads were flooded, railway and metro services faced disruptions, and several schools remained closed as severe waterlogging affected multiple residential areas, making commuting difficult.

Kolkata Metro Services Suspended Due To Waterlogging
Services on the Blue Line (Dakshineswar–Shahid Khudiram) of the Kolkata Metro have been halted because of waterlogging, particularly between Mahanayak Uttam Kumar and Rabindra Sarovar stations. A metro spokesperson informed Jagran.com that, for passenger safety, trains are not running between Shahid Khudiram and Maidan stations, while limited services continue from Dakshineswar to Maidan. Normal operations are expected to resume shortly.
Kolkata Schools Closed
Heavy waterlogging on city roads brought traffic to a complete halt on Tuesday, causing major inconvenience for office-goers due to disrupted public transport and long jams. Many schools declared holidays as a result of the severe rainfall.
IMD Forecast Rainfall Till Sept 27 In Kolkata
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast heavy rain in several southern districts of West Bengal until September 27. According to the IMD, very heavy rainfall (7-20 cm) is likely at one or two places in South 24 Parganas, while heavy rain (7-11 cm) is expected at isolated locations in Purba and Paschim Medinipur, North 24 Parganas, Kolkata, Purba Bardhaman, Howrah, and Hooghly districts until Tuesday morning.

From Tuesday onwards until Wednesday, heavy rainfall is expected in Purba and Paschim Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, and Bankura districts.
