Kolkata Weather Today: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and gusty winds across Kolkata and South Bengal this week. On Tuesday, overnight showers left several areas of Kolkata waterlogged, and at least five people died due to electrocution.

The IMD has issued multiple alerts for districts including Purba Medinipur, Paschim Medinipur, South 24 Parganas, Jhargram, and Bankura, with heavy rain expected until Wednesday. Similar showers may affect Kolkata and surrounding areas around September 25, prompting community puja organisers to stay alert.

Airlines have issued travel advisories following IMD warnings. A Kolkata Municipal Corporation official said emergency instructions have been issued to run drainage pumps to clear roads.

IndiGo has informed passengers about disruptions due to heavy rainfall in Kolkata. The airline said, “Some routes across#Kolkata has been impacted by heavy rain, leading to temporary blocks or diversions. 22 September: Cloudy skies with a few spells of rain or thundershowers, heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and gusty winds (30-40 kmph).

23-26 September: Generally cloudy skies with thunderstorms and rain expected every day, accompanied by gusty winds up to 40 kmph.

27-28 September: Cloudy skies with the possibility of rain or thunderstorms, though no formal warnings have been issued.

Kolkata Rainfall Update 

According to the IMD, Kolkata recorded 0.3 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Tuesday. The maximum temperature was 30.5 Degree Celsius, about 2.3 Degree Celsius below normal, while the minimum stood at 27.1 Degree Celsius, slightly above the seasonal average. Humidity remained high at 92 percent. Although the showers may provide brief relief from the sultry humidity, discomfort is expected to persist without sustained rainfall.
