Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Kolkata Police have announced traffic restrictions for August 9 in view of the upcoming Nabanna Abhijan protest organised by Paschim Banga Chatra Samaj. The restrictions aim to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow during the event.
Commissioner of Police Manoj Kumar Verma, using powers under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act, Calcutta Police Act and West Bengal Traffic Regulations Act, has ordered a ban on goods vehicles, except those carrying essential and perishable items, from operating between 4 AM and 10 PM on the day of the protest.
Kolkata Traffic Advisory: Key Routes Affected
The restriction will affect major routes including Vidyasagar Setu and its ramps, Khidderpore Road, Taratala Road, Diamond Harbour Road, Circular Garden Reach Road, Garden Reach Road, Hide Road, Coal Berth Road, Remount Road and other connecting feeder roads serving the western parts of Kolkata and the dock and port areas.

Additionally, goods vehicles will be restricted on central city roads such as Jawaharlal Nehru Road, Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Road (R R Avenue), Red Road, New Road, Dufferin Road, Mayo Road, Outram Road, Hospital Road, Lovers Lane, Queensway, Casuarina Avenue, Cathedral Road, Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Road, S N Banerjee Road, Old Court House Street, Council House Street, Kingsway, St Georges Gate Road, Strand Road, MG Road, Strand Bank Road, K K Tagore Street, Kalakar Street, Brabourne Road, and Howrah Bridge.

The traffic police will also have the authority to divert goods vehicles and other traffic from arterial and feeder roads as needed to maintain order and safety during the protest.
These temporary rules will be enforced alongside the usual traffic regulations on August 9 and are designed to reduce congestion and allow for peaceful conduct of the event without disrupting essential goods transportation.
Kolkata Traffic Advisory: THESE Vehicles Are Exempted From Restrictions
Motorists are advised to plan their travel accordingly and cooperate with police personnel managing traffic on the day. Those transporting essential goods such as LPG, petroleum products, oxygen, milk, medicine, fruits, and vegetables are exempt from these restrictions.
