Kolkata Weather Update: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds in the city through the weekend. Heavy rain battered Kolkata and nearby areas ahead of a major festival, leaving streets flooded, transport services disrupted, and residents stranded for hours. At least 12 people lost their lives in the downpour.

On September 24, the city experienced thunderstorms accompanied by rain, though no major warnings were issued. The maximum temperature stood at 31.6 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was 25.6 degrees Celsius. Around 4 mm of light showers were recorded, keeping morning humidity levels elevated at nearly 94 percent.

Kolkata Weather Forecast 

1. IMD predicts thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds (30-50 kmph) in Kolkata from 25-28 September.

2. Rain spells may occur under cloudy skies, causing sudden downpours, waterlogging, and traffic disruptions.

3. The weather office has flagged 25-28 September for intense thunderstorms, urging residents to stay alert.

4. People are advised to avoid venturing out during lightning activity.

5. Weather may ease from 29 September, with only isolated thunderstorms expected on 29 and 30 September.

6. No warnings issued for 29-30 September, suggesting reduced rain intensity.

West Bengal Weather Forecast

West Bengal is expected to see light to moderate rain with thunder over South 24 Parganas, East and West Medinipur, and Jhargram on Thursday and Friday, along with gusty winds of 30-40 kmph, while scattered showers are likely in other districts including Kolkata. 

All districts of South Bengal, including Kolkata, may witness thunderstorms, with rainfall intensity easing slightly on October 6 and 7 but picking up again towards Navami and Dasami.

In North Bengal, no heavy rain is forecast till Saptami, though light to moderate rain with thundershowers and gusty winds is likely on Chaturthi and Panchami, with reduced rainfall expected for the rest of the Puja days.
