The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday conducted an inspection of the Habitat Studio in Mumbai where standup comedian Kunal Kamra made a controversial remark against Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde.

The action came after the Kamra's comments triggered political slugfest leading to vandalism at the venue. The BMC officials reached with hammers at the studio situated in Khar while conduction inspection.

Kamra stocked controversy after he shared a clip of his show in which he was commenting on Maharashtra politics and, without naming, called Eknath Shinde a 'traitor.'

The incident led to massive protests by Shinde's Shiv Sena. Subsequently, the Yuva Sena, the youth faction of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena vandalised the Habitat comedy venue.

Taking action the police arrested 11 members of the Yuva Sena. Following the incident, Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel filed a police complaint and an FIR was registered against Kamra by the Mumbai Police.

Earlier, the studio announced a temporary closure following vandalism. In a statement shared on Instagram, Habitat expressed its shock and concern over the recent attack, stating that it will remain closed "until we find a way to ensure free expression without risking our safety and property."

The studio further stated, "We are deeply saddened by the vandalism aimed at us. Artists are solely responsible for their own views and creative decisions. We have never interfered with the content presented by any artist, but these events have made us reconsider our role, as we often face blame and threats as if we are proxies for the performers."
