Stand up comedian Kunal Kamra, who faces probe over his alleged remarks against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, took a jibe at the Mumbai Police on Monday after a team of policemen visited his 10-year-old address for investigation. In the latest post on his social media handles, Kamra jabbed the Mumbai Police, terming their visit a "waste of time and public resources". The police visited his former residence in Mahim after he failed to appear before them for questioning.

The comedian kicked up a political storm earlier this month after he released his latest comedy set on YouTube. Kamra's apparent reference to Shinde in the stand up gig irked Shiv Sena workers, leading to vandalism of the venue where the show was filmed, and police cases against the comedian.

After the Mumbai Police visited his home in Mahim on Monday, Kamra shared an image of himself on his X and Instagram handles, and wrote, "Going to an address where I haven’t lived for the last 10 years is a waste of your time & public resources..." In the social media post, Kamra could be seen posing nonchalantly in the balcony of his house during the time of sunset.

According to the police, Kamra was supposed to appear before Khar police for questioning today, but he skipped the summons issued to him for the second time. "A Khar police team went to his house in Mahim, where his family stays, to check whether he would appear in connection with the case or not. Since he did not, further course of action will be decided soon," news agency PTI quoted an official as saying.

Kamra was served the first summons last week, following which the comedian sought a seven-day extension, which he was denied.

On March 28, the Madras High Court granted interim anticipatory bail to Kamra, requiring him to execute a bond to the satisfaction of the judicial magistrate in Vanur, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu. Kamra stated that he had moved from Mumbai to Tamil Nadu in 2021, and had been a resident of the state since then. He expressed concern about being arrested by Mumbai police.

Last week, three FIRs filed against him in Nashik Rural, Jalgaon, and Nashik (Nandgaon) were transferred to Khar police station, where a case was already registered based on a complaint by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. The studio where Kamra recorded his video satirising Shinde over the Shiv Sena split is in Khar, a western suburb of Mumbai. On the night of March 23, Shiv Sainiks vandalised the studio and the hotel where it is located.
