Comedian Kunal Kamra, facing political uproar over a satirical song targeting Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, has sought a week to appear before Mumbai Police. The summons were issued following a complaint filed by Shiv Sena MLA Murji Patel. Kunal Kamra was asked to appear before the investigating officer at 11 am on Tuesday. However, he was not in Mumbai when the notice was delivered to his residence.

Kunal Kamra's lawyer reached out to Mumbai Police, requesting a seven-day extension. Kamra was summoned by the police to record his statement today but did not appear. According to Mumbai Police, further action will be taken after seeking legal opinion.

Despite the controversy, Kamra has maintained that he will cooperate with the police but does not regret his remarks or intend to apologise. In a viral audio clip, Kamra was heard informing an Eknath Shinde supporter that he was in Tamil Nadu.

On Tuesday, he posted a video showing Shiv Sena workers vandalising the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar, where his comedy special was recorded. The video was overlaid with another satirical song from the show.

During his comedy special, Kamra presented a satirical twist on Hum Honge Kamyaab (We Shall Overcome), altering the lyrics to Hum Honge Kangaal (We Shall Be Bankrupt). This parody song was later used in his Tuesday post, which featured footage of Shiv Sena workers vandalizing the Habitat Comedy Club in Khar—overturning chairs and scattering documents and photos across the stairs.

The video also captures Sena workers burning Kamra's photo, preparing to set his effigy on fire, and making victory signs after securing bail from a magistrate's court following their arrest for the destruction.

Kamra's remarks about Shinde were made during a performance at the Habitat Studio in Mumbai’s Khar area. He referred to Shiv Sena chief and Maharashtra Deputy CM Ekanth Shinde as a "traitor". This segment, mocking Shinde’s 2022 rebellion against Uddhav Thackeray, was later uploaded on YouTube.

The video’s release triggered an aggressive response from Shiv Sena workers, who stormed the comedy venue, vandalized property, and ransacked the premises. Visuals from Kamra’s recent post showed Sena workers throwing chairs, scattering documents, and setting his photo on fire.

Following the incident, Mumbai Police registered a case against 40 Shiv Sena workers for vandalizing the Habitat Studio and the hotel where it is located. Additionally, 12 individuals linked to the attack, including Shiv Sena Yuva Sena General Secretary Rahool Kanal, were arrested but later granted bail. Meanwhile, an FIR has been filed against Kamra for allegedly making defamatory remarks against Shinde.
