Mir was in Kot Lakhpat jail after he was sentenced by a court in June 2022 for promoting terrorism. Pakistan sentenced Mir to clean its image before FATF to secure a loan for improving its financial health.
The news came as a blow to the Pakistan army and its intelligence agency as they keep breeding such elements to spread unrest in India.
It has also been reported that Mir was receiving continuous death threats, owing to which he was shifted to a prison in Dera Ghazi Khan. However, Mir’s hospitalisation could also be a tactic of the Pakistani Army and ISI as the country is under continuous international pressure to act against terrorists breeding inside, the TOI reported. As the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced a five-million-dollar bounty on his head, faking his death could be a distraction to halt his extradition to the US.
The anti-terrorism court in Pakistan last year sentenced him to a 15-year jail term for a terror-financing case.
As many as 10 Pakistani terrorists on November 26, 2008, infiltrated south Mumbai through sea routes at several locations in the city. Their attack claimed the lives of 166 individuals and injured more than 300 people.
