Lok Sabha Winter Session:  The winter session of the Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die (adjourned indefinitely) by the speaker Om Birla on Thursday, after the passing of several important bills including the three criminal bills and the Telecommunication bill. The session, the second one in the new parliament building, witnessed a grave security breach and subsequent suspension of opposition MPs from both houses.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with other senior BJP leaders were present at the time of the adjournment announcement by the LS speaker.

The Lok Sabha adjourned a day ahead of schedule, and reported a 74% productivity rate, noted Speaker Om Birla on the Winter Session's final day. The session, marked by several notable events, including the suspension of 100 MPs for unruly conduct, concluded with 14 sittings and a total work duration of 61 hours and 50 minutes.

Key legislative accomplishments include the passage of 18 bills, among them the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita 2023, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha (Second) Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya (Second) Sanhita, aiming to replace the IPC, CrPC, and the Indian Evidence Act. The House also approved bills such as the Central Goods and Services Tax (Second Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Telecommunications Bill, 2023.

Additionally, Speaker Birla highlighted the presentation of 35 reports by department-related Standing Committees, 55 orally answered starred questions, and the laying of 1,930 papers on the House's table. The session, which commenced on December 4 and was slated to end on December 22, witnessed unexpected disruptions, including a security breach on the anniversary of the 2001 Parliament terror attack.

Extending the unprecedented trend, the Lok Sabha speaker today suspended three more members of Parliament (MPs) from the house for the remainder winter session for creating a 'ruckus'. The three ousted MPs on the last day of the winter session include DK Suresh, Nakul Nath and Deepak Baij of Congress. With the latest action, the total number of opposition MPs suspended from both the houses of the Parliament in this session rises to 146.
