Continuing the unprecedented trend, the Lok Sabha speaker (chair) has suspended three more members of Parliament (MPs) from the house on Thursday. The three ousted MPs on the last day of the winter session include DK Suresh, Nakul Nath and Deepak Baij of Congress. With the latest action, the total number of opposition MPs suspended from both houses of the Parliament in this session has risen to 146. The number of MPs suspended from the lower house reached 100 with the three new additions.
A motion for the suspension of D K Suresh, Deepak Baij and Nakul Nath, all three of the Congress party, was moved by the Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi in the house.
"This House having taken serious note of misconduct of Deepak Baij, D K Suresh, Nakul Nath in utter disregard to the House and authority of the Chair through display of placards, entering into the Well of the House may be suspended from the House for the remaining session," Joshi said.
Earlier today, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla had warned the three MPs against protesting within the House. Despite the warning, opposition MPs continued their protest during the morning session, objecting to suspending many opposition MPs and calling for discussions on the Parliament security breach. They sought a statement from Home Minister Amit Shah. The opposition MPs voiced their concerns with slogans during the Question Hour.
Yesterday, Trinamool Congress (TMC) national spokesperson Saket Gokhale claimed on social media that Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Rajya Sabha member Piyush Goyal told him that many more Opposition MPs would face suspension from the house before Home Minister Amit Shah tables the three Criminal Bills in the house.
