Lok Sabha Elections 2024: Ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the AIADMK on Saturday wrote to the Election Commission (EC), alleging snooping on its senior leaders and their staff members by the intelligence wing of Tamil Nadu Police at the behest of the state's ruling DMK, its arch rival. In its letter to the EC, the AIADMK has claimed "illegal phone interception by Tamil Nadu Intelligence Wing to target Opposition leaders". The party has sought action against the the head of Tamil Nadu intelligence wing, Inspector General (IG) KA Senthilvelan.

"We have been informed by our sources in the government and police department that, Tamil Nadu state Intelligence Wing headed by Inspector General of Police Thiru. Senthilvelan, I.P.S., has been using an illegal phone interception / hacking software manufactured by an Israeli firm to target opposition leaders in Tamil Nadu," the AIADMK said in its letter to the poll body.

The AIADMK has alleged that its strategies for the 2024 Lok Sabha election is being passed on to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin by the intelligence wing. "By intercepting hacking the phones of our party's senior leaders, Thiru. Senthilvelan is passing on the information about our electoral strategies to Thiru. M.K. Stalin to whom Thiru. Senthilvelan reports directly on a day-to-day basis," the party has claimed.
"The unfair practice by the state intelligence gives an unfair advantage to the ruling party and defeats the purpose of free and fair elections," the letter to the EC adds. Polling for 39 Lok Sabha seats across Tamil Nadu is scheduled to take place in the opening phase of the general elections on April 19.

The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. In 2019, the Congress and DMK-led alliance won 38 out of 39 seats in the state, while AIADMK could only win one seat. The election for 543 Lok Sabha seats in the country will be held in seven phases, starting April 19. Nearly 97 crore voters are eligible to cast their votes in the general elections.
