Madhya Pradesh News: A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped while aboard the Jabalpur-Rewa MEMU train at Pakaria station between Satna and Katni sections on Sunday evening in Madhya Pradesh's Katni district. Pankaj Kushwaha, a 23-year-old native of Banda (Uttar Pradesh) and a resident of Katni, has been apprehended in connection with the incident, as confirmed by L P Kashyap, the Satna Government Railway Police (GRP) station in-charge.
According to the officials, the accused purportedly stopped the woman near the train's restroom, where he committed the sexual assault. The survivor managed to escape and reported the incident to the GRP at Satna station in a terrified state. In response, a swift action team was dispatched to capture the alleged perpetrator.

"The accused allegedly intercepted the woman near the toilet and raped her. She managed to escape and informed the GRP at Satna station, following which a team was dispatched to apprehend the man," he added.
Pankaj Kushwaha had locked himself in the train's toilet to escape from the GRP officials. Upon reaching Rewa, the lock was broken, and he was subsequently taken into custody. The jurisdiction of the case falls under Katni GRP, therefore the case was handed over to them.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sarika Pandey noted that the accused's criminal record is currently under scrutiny.
In another development, a special POCSO court in Gujrat on Monday sentenced a 41-year-old man to imprisonment of 20 years for raping his 12-year-old daughter at their house in 2021. Special judge JK Prajapati also ordered the government to pay a compensation of Rs 4 lakh to the victim under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
