Chandigarh News: Police caught a 23-year-old UPSC aspirant with 236 grams of Charas in Chandigarh on Sunday. The accused was peddling drugs in the area for over six months, said one of the officials. He was apprehended at the roundabout of sector 16/22 by the police after the latter received secret input about his presence in the area.
The accused, Aman Thakur, recently graduated with a BTech degree from Jammu University and resides in a paying guest accommodation in Sector 22. A native of Chamba in Himachal Pradesh, Thakur was apprehended based on confidential information, according to the police.

“He had come to the city for UPSC coaching but started selling drugs. He was residing in PG accommodation in Sector 22,” said a police officer as reported by the Tribune.
In the course of questioning, he informed the police that for the past six months, he had been involved in the distribution of drugs throughout the Tricity. He also told police that he was buying Charas from Kullu at lower prices and then selling them at a much higher cost in Chandigarh. A case was filed under the NDPS Act at the Sector 17 police station.

In another incident, Dheeraj Sharma, also known as Sunny, a 30-year-old individual residing in Dadu Majra village, was arrested by the crime branch for having 30 grams of heroin near the EWS colony in Maloya. The police disclosed that Dheeraj had affiliations with the Bhupi Rana gang and maintained communication with the incarcerated gangster, currently lodged in Bathinda jail, as per a law enforcement official.
