Eleven people were killed after a van hit a bike and fell into a water-filled well in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur district on Sunday, said police. The accident occurred at Budha-Takarwat Phante around 1:15 pm when 13 members of a Keer family from Ratlam were en route to visit the Antari Mata temple in the Manasa area of Neemuch district, following a wedding they attended in Mandsaur.
"Four of them were rescued while nine others died. A villager, identified as Manohar, who descended into the well for rescue, also died," he said, adding that the body of a victim of the accident is yet to be pulled out of the well.
Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda, who quickly arrived at the scene, stated that the driver seemingly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and fall into the well.

Mandsaur superintendent of police (SP) Abhishek Anand said, “The Eco Van hit a bike rider and later fell into an open well. The villagers informed the police and also tried to rescue them. During the rescue operation, a villager Monohar Singh died while bike rider Gobar Singh also succumbed to injuries.”
“The rescue operation is ongoing, and eight bodies were recovered from the well. The van has also been extracted with the help of JCB.
Four people, including a 3-year-old girl, were injured in the accident and they were admitted to Mandsaur district hospital,” the SP added.
Prima facie, the van driver lost control of the vehicle after it collided with a bike and plunged into a well. The bike rider also died in the incident, authorities confirmed. A rescue operation, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other units, is currently underway.
MP Dy CM Jagdish Devda says, "Rescue operation is underway. SP, Collector, DIG, all are present here. The locals here are also working hard...everyone is on the job. Total 8 people have been taken out and sent to a hospital...the children who have been sent to the hospital could survive. When it comes to the rest of them, the chances are very low"
