Madhya Pradesh: The Malhargarh police station in Madhya Pradesh, which was recently ranked ninth among the country's best police stations, is now facing severe scrutiny. The High Court uncovered explosive evidence showing that officers of the Malhargarh police station kidnapped a student from a bus and framed him in a fake drug smuggling case.

How Police Fabricated The Case?

The victim, identified as Sohan, an 18-year-old Class 12 student from Malhargarh, was seized by the police on August 29, NDTV reported. Hours after the abduction, police declared that Sohan had been arrested in possession of 2.7 kilograms of opium. He was produced in court the following day, which sent him to jail.

CCTV Shows Officers Kidnap Student From Bus

The evidence, including CCTV footage, mobile phone videos, and witness statements, presented a contradictory reality. According to the NDTV report, the evidence showed that there was no presence of drugs, no pursuit, and no legal seizure. In the CCTV footage, a group of policemen in plain clothes are seen stopping a bus, dragging the student out, and disappearing with him.

Sohan’s family approached the Indore bench of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on December 5, alleging illegal abduction, wrongful arrest, and fabrication of evidence.

During Tuesday's hearing, the High Court demanded the personal presence of Mandsaur Superintendent of Police Vinod Kumar Meena. Meena admitted that Malhargarh police officers had, in fact, picked up Sohan from the bus, the report added.

He further stated that the student's arrest time and location, as stated in the First Information Report (FIR), did not align with video evidence. The entire operation was led by a head constable from Malhargarh, and the case was registered only after Sohan was already in illegal custody, highlighting a failure to follow legal procedures.

SP Meena confirmed that the police officers seen boarding the bus, previously disowned by the district administration, were Malhargarh police personnel. He informed the court that he had suspended six Malhargarh policemen, including those who directly dragged the student off the bus, and had initiated a departmental inquiry. The High Court has reserved its order.

Speaking to NDTV, Senior Advocate Himanshu Thakur said, “The court saw all evidence. It accepted that Sohan was illegally kidnapped from a bus and falsely shown arrested with 2.7 kg of opium at 5 pm. He is a bright student who passed Class 12 in the first division. The SP admitted in court that the Malhargarh police acted illegally and outside the law. Even the officer who earlier denied knowing the bus-boarding men has been contradicted; all were police officers.”
