In a horrific incident, a man allegedly pushed her wife into a well and sent a video to his in-laws demanding dowry, police said on Saturday. However, he was later arrested by the police in Madhya Pradesh’s Neemuch district.
The incident occurred at Keeron village under Jawad police station limits on August 21, a local police official said.
The woman identified as Usha Keer in her complaint alleged that she hung on to a rope inside the well for two hours before the accused pulled her out, as reported by the news agency PTI.
Usha, hailing from Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district was married to Rakesh Keer three years ago but Rakesh and his parents were constantly harassing her for dowry, said police sub-inspector Aslam Khan.
Rakesh allegedly pushed Usha into a well around 2 pm on August 21 following which Usha saved her life from drowning by holding on to a rope while her husband shot a video and sent it to the in-laws, demanding dowry.
According to Assistant sub-inspector Virendra Singh Raghuvanshi, the man later pulled her out following two hours.
After the video of the incident went viral and the woman filed a complaint against Rakesh Keer, the police arrested him under Indian Penal Code Sections 498-A (treating a married woman with cruelty), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation), police sub-inspector Aslam Khan said.
