As many as 370 shanties have been razed at the Madrasi Camp in Jangpura amid the administration’s intensified crackdown on illegal encroachments in Delhi. The Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday began the demolition drive at the Madrasi Camp in Jangpura, located near Nizamuddin Railway Station.
According to information, the STF team arrived at the site with four bulldozers to remove the illegal encroachments.
To handle possible resistance from the locals, police and paramilitary forces have been deployed. Notices for the demolition of around 300 shanties were pasted on May 17.

"This action is being taken as per court orders. The encroachments are being removed in compliance with the court's directive. It was becoming difficult to clean the Barapullah drain and the area had narrowed significantly. This was the primary reason for waterlogging in the locality during heavy rainfall. Eligible residents have been allotted flats in Narela," South East District Magistrate Anil Banka said.

In East Delhi's Jhilmil Ward, the second floor of a leaning building in Krishna Market's Rajiv Camp was demolished on Saturday. The third floor had already been demolished the previous day. According to municipal officials, the owner will now dismantle the ground floor and first floor on his own. There is no longer any danger in doing so, but due to the building's tilt, the owner and residents of two adjacent houses are currently staying with acquaintances.
The leaning building in Rajiv Camp was a three-story structure built on a 135 sq. ft plot. It had been illegally constructed on land belonging to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), originally meant for shanties.
Several other multi-story buildings in the area are also in a dangerous condition. Municipal officials said that DUSIB will take action against such buildings, as the land belongs to them.
