Maharashtra Monsoon Fury: Heavy rainfall across Maharashtra has brought daily life to a standstill, with the monsoon causing widespread disruption, accidents, and loss of life.

In one incident captured on CCTV in the Mira-Bhayandar area, two people were badly injured after a tree suddenly collapsed during intense rain. The footage shows the tree falling within seconds, leaving no time for people nearby to react. Locals quickly rushed in to rescue the injured and shifted them to a hospital. Municipal teams later removed the debris and restored normal traffic flow.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday issued a red alert for Mumbai, Thane, and Raigad districts, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds. Authorities urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel. The alert was upgraded from orange to red in the morning after a change in weather conditions. The IMD also warned of wind speeds gusting up to 70-80 kmph.

Officials cautioned that intense rainfall could lead to flooding in low-lying and urban areas, flash floods, river overflows, and waterlogging on roads and bridges. They also warned that weak trees may be uprooted, old and poorly maintained structures could collapse, and vulnerable regions may face landslides, mudslides, and rockfalls.
