Mumbai Rains: Heavy rains continue to lash Mumbai, crippling rail networks and forcing suspension of traffic on key expressways; schools and colleges were also postponed. The disaster management minister said 13 people have died in rain-related incidents over the past three to four days as record-breaking rainfall lashed Mumbai and neighbouring Palghar and Raigad districts. Additionally, 17 flights have been cancelled and 217 delayed at Mumbai airport due to the incessant rainfall. As per the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA), the cancellations and delays were reported between 12 am and 11:30 am on July 6.

The city has faced an extraordinary five-day deluge: the Santacruz observatory has recorded 805.6 mm of rain since July 1 (94 per cent of its monthly average), while Colaba has already surpassed its July monthly quota, marking its wettest July day in more than 50 years.

As relentless torrential rain floods streets and lanes, commuters across the financial capital are facing harrowing challenges trying to navigate the waterlogged metropolis. Check Latest Updates: 

- Central Railway Cancels Trains: The affected routes include the CSMT–Pune–CSMT Indrayani Express (22105/22106), the Pune–Solapur–Pune Intercity Express (12169/12170), the CSMT–Pune–CSMT Intercity Express (12127/12128), and the CSMT–Pune–CSMT Deccan Express (11007/11008). Additionally, iconic daily commuter services such as the Pune–CSMT–Pune Deccan Queen (12124/12123), the Pune–CSMT–Pune Pragati Express (12126/12125), and the Pune–CSMT–Pune Sinhagad Express (11010/11009) have been suspended for the day, alongside the long-distance CSMT–Dhule–CSMT Express corridor (11011/11012).

- Nine trains were diverted to alternative routes in the city. The diverted trains include the Ahmedabad-Kolhapur Express, Indore-Daund Express, Ahmedabad-Pune Duronto Express, Bidar-CSMT Express, Hazur Sahib Nanded-Panvel Express, Charlapalli-Indore Humsafar Express, LTT-SMVT Bengaluru Express, Daund-Gwalior Superfast Express, and Chennai Egmore-CSMT Mail.

- The Pune Expressway has reopened for traffic following the complete clearance of water accumulation and landslide debris, according to traffic police. Police sub-inspector Karan Shikalgar stated that vehicles are now permitted to proceed along the route, and the traffic police are actively managin vehicular movement.

- Heavy rain brought traffic on the Mumbai-Goa Highway to a crawl after severe waterlogging inundated key stretches in Maharashtra's Raigad district.

-A huge hoarding installation collapsed on Pokhran 2 in Thane City, affecting movement of traffic. Civic teams are on the spot trying to clear the stretch. 

-A massive landslide occurred near Thakurwadi railway station near Karjat and affected three railway routes. Rail operations were disrupted due to debris on the tracks, forcing several trains to be stopped midway.

-Mumbai's iconic dabbawalas suspended services for the day due to heavy rainfall and disruption to train operations.

- The Maharashtra State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) on Monday issued a work-from-home (WFH) advisory for private offices in Mumbai, further observing that non-essential government offices will observe a half day amid heavy rains in the financial capital.

- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) claimed Colaba witnessed its wettest July day in a decade, as intense spells of rain coupled with gusty winds continued throughout the weekend.

-Thane recorded its highest 24-hour rainfall of the 2026 monsoon season, with 208.5 mm of rain recorded between 8:30 am on July 5 and 8:30 am on July 6.

-Train services between Karjat and Khopoli have been suspended because of the heavy rains and subsequent water flow causing the ballast washout. This was identified by alert staff, and resources are being mobilised to restore the section and services.

- Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has expressed grief over the incident in which 6 people died in a house collapse accident in the Mankhurd area of Mumbai and has paid tribute to the deceased. He has announced financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to the heirs of the deceased: CMO
