Railway News: An explosion occurred on the railway tracks between Salakati and Kokrajhar stations in the Alipurduar division of the Northeast Frontier Railway in the early hours of Thursday. The blast occurred at around 1 am and delayed around 8-10 trains.

Officials said the track was repaired by 5:25 am, and normal train service resumed at 5:30 am. Patrols have been increased in the section.

As per a jagran.com report, a freight train was passing through this section and was jolted, forcing the train to stop. An investigation revealed damage to the track and sleepers, raising suspicions of a blast.

Railway Police Superintendent, Pranjit Bora, said that damage to the railway track in Kokrajhar, possibly caused by the blast, had been detected. Repairs have been completed and train traffic has resumed.

State Police, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and intelligence officials are investigating the matter.

Bora said, "The railway loco pilot informed us last night that something went wrong. The district police and GRP came and investigated. Damage was found on one track. This could be a suspected blast. The investigation is still in its initial stages. It would not be right to say anything with certainty right now. Details will be shared after the investigation is complete. If it is sabotage, we need to find out who did it and who is involved. Repairs have been completed. Train movement has resumed."

Trains Delayed

Meanwhile, the CPRO of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) said in a statement that on October 23 at about 1:00 am, when the goods train UP AZARA Sugar was passing between Salakati and Kokrajhar, the train manager reported a strong jerk, following which the train was stopped.

He added that upon inspection, it was found that the track and sleepers were damaged due to a suspected bomb blast. The track was repaired by 5:25 am and normal train service resumed. About eight trains were stranded due to the incident. Patrolling has been increased in the section.
