Rajouri Terror Attack: A major terror attack on an Army picket in the remote village of Gundha, Rajouri district, Jammu and Kashmir, was thwarted early Monday. According to the PRO Defence Jammu, suspected terrorists initiated the attack by firing at the newly established Rashtriya Rifles camp in the Gundha Khawas area at around 4 a.m.
Security personnel stationed at the post responded to the attack, resulting in a brief exchange of fire. In response to the incident, security forces have launched a cordon and search operation in the area. Further details on the situation are awaited as the operation is ongoing.
“Major terror attack on Army picket in remote village of Rajouri thwarted,” Defence spokesperson Lt Col Suneel Bartwal said.
One soldier is reportedly injured and has been shifted to hospital, as reported by news agency IANS citing official sources.
Earlier, terrorists targeted the home of a Village Defence Guard (VDC) member in Gundha at approximately 3:10 a.m. The attack prompted a response from a nearby Army unit, resulting in a firefight. The White Knight Corps confirmed that operations are continuing in the area.
This incident follows a recent security review led by Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi, who met with Jammu and Kashmir Police, paramilitary forces, and intelligence agencies on Saturday.
Earlier on Thursday, two Army personnel were injured in a similar attack in Doda district when terrorists fired on a temporary camp at a government school in Jaddan Bata village. One soldier, critically injured, was airlifted to the Udhampur Command Hospital.
Since the start of the year, nearly a dozen terror attacks across six districts in Jammu have resulted in the deaths of 27 people, including 11 security personnel, a village defence guard, and five terrorists.
Meanwhile, the Indian Army has increased its troop deployment in the Jammu region. This decision comes amid a series of terror attacks in Jammu and Kashmir. Additional troops have been deployed in Kathua, Samba, Doda, Badarwah, and Kishtwar. Troops from the Western Command have also been reassigned to enhance security.
