'Married Because Party Made You MP': AAP Sharpens Attack After Raghav Chadha's 'Toxicity' Reason For Exit

The war of words between the Aam Aadmi Party and Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha has intensified after the latter's exit from the party along with six other Punjab MPs in the Upper House. Hours after Chadha explained his reason behind leaving AAP in a video message, former Delhi Minister has slammed Chadha.

Bharadwaj, the AAP MLA from Greater Kailash, said that Chadha was not facing criticism because he left the party but for conspiring against it. Continuing his attack on Chadha, Bharadwaj said that he was married (to Parineeti Chopra) because the Aam Aadmi Party made him the Rajya Sabha MP.

Chadha tied the knot with the actor in September 2023 in a private ceremony at Udaipur's Taj Lake Palace. The wedding was attended by AAP national convenor and former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann.

After Chadha was removed from the post of deputy leader of the party in the Upper House, Chopra came out in his support.

What did Chadha say in his video message?

While detailing his reason behind the exit in his video message, Chadha on Monday morning linked it to an employee switching jobs over a "toxic" workplace.

Responding to this, the AAP MLA called Chadha out, saying, "ideology" didn't factor when switching companies, but it does when switching political parties.

"Even when you switch jobs, you give a three-month notice to your owner for a smooth transition," Bharadwaj added.

"Though it’s not the same, even when people switch jobs, they don’t hatch a conspiracy against their parent company. For more than a year, Raghav conspired with the BJP’s Central Govt to create a neutral image of a young politician who raises middle-class issues," Bharadwaj said.

Rajya Sabha Chairman accepts merger 

Along with Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Sandeep Pathak, Vikramjit Singh Sahney, Harbhajan Singh, Swati Maliwal and Rajinder Gupta left AAP. Mittal's name came as a major shock as he was the one who replaced Chadha as AAP's deputy leader in the House.

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman, CP Radhakrishnan, has accepted the merger of Chadha's faction with the BJP, taking the party's tally in Rajya Sabha to 113.
