Tamil Nadu Firecracker Explosion: A day after the Telangana pharma plant explosion, a massive blast occurred at a firecracker unit in Tamil Nadu's Sivakasi on Tuesday. According to a report by News18, five persons lost their lives in the explosion which triggered fire. The death toll may increase further. A video on social media shows a thick tower of smoke emiting from the plant.

Indian Express Tamil reported that the explosion occurred this morning at a privately owned cracker factory operating in Chinna Kamanpatti village near Sivakasi. A large number of workers were working in the factory when the blast took place, the report added. The locals immediately informed the fire department after they heard the explosion.

Firefighters who rushed to the spot after receiving the information were actively working to extinguish the fire. A smoke cloud was visible around the fire incident site.

The police registered a case and were conducting an intensive investigation into the explosion. According to initial information, unofficial reports have emerged that five people have died in this horrific cracker factory explosion. 

Death Toll In Telangana Pharma Plant Explosion Rises To 34

Meanwile, the toll in the explosion at the Sigachi Industries' pharma plant in Pashamylaram has rose to 34 on Tuesday. The number of casulities may increase further as the rescue operation is still underway.

"Several bodies have been found under the debris while removing it. As many as 31 bodies have been extricated from the debris while three died in hospital while undergoing treatment. The last leg of the rescue operation is still going on," district Superintendent of Police Paritosh Pankaj said.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy would visit the accident site on Tuesday, Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha said.

What Caused The Explosion?

The fatal accident on Monday is suspected to have been caused by a chemical reaction. Sigachi Industries Limited is a pharmaceutical company dedicated to pioneering advancements in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Intermediates, Excipients, vitamin-mineral blends, and Operations and Management (O&M) services, according to the company's website.
