The death toll in the Telangana pharma plant explosion has reached 34 as several bodies were found under the rubble during the rescue operation, PTI reported citing officials. The reactor blast took place at Sigachi Pharma Company, Pasamailaram Phase 1 in Medak on Monday. The blast is suspected to have been triggered by a chemical reaction.
"Several bodies have been found under the debris while removing it. As many as 31 bodies have been extricated from the debris while three died in the hospital while undergoing treatment. The last leg of the rescue operation is still going on," PTI quoted SP Paritosh Pankaj as saying.
NDRF, SDF and firefighter teams swung into action soon after the incident. The rescue operation continued till late Monday night and resumed on Tuesday morning to salvage the damage caused by the blast.
Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy would visit the incident site today to take stock of the situation, state Health Minister C Damodar Rajanarasimha said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the loss of lives and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakhs for the next of kin of each deceased. Rs 50,000 aid has been announced for the injured by the PM.
"Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of Rs. 2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given Rs. 50,000," PM Modi stated in a post on X.

The factor reported has a workforce of 150 and 90 persons were inside the factory during the blast, as per the Economic Times.
