The Meghalaya Police has revealed that the accused in Raja Raghuvanshi's murder had planned to kill another unidentified woman and burn her body to pass it on as Sonam to prevent the unravelling of the crime for some time.

While talking about the case, East Khasi Hill SP Vivek Syiem said that Sonam's alleged boyfriend was the mastermind in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, while she was the co-conspirator.

Providing details about the conspiracy, Syiem said, "One plan was to make people believe that she would wash away by a river. Another plan was to murder any woman, burn the body and claim that it was of Sonam. However, none of the plans fructify."

During the initial interrogation, Sonam had revealed that she fled to MP after the murder and then to UP's Ghazipur. Speaking about the case, East Khasi Hill SP Vivek Syiem said, "The conspiracy to eliminate Raja was hatched in Indore, shortly before his wedding with Sonam on May 11, and the mastermind is Raj, while the woman had agreed to the plot."

Sonam was arrested in Ghazipur on Monday after going untraceable since May 23. While Raja's body was found on June 2, she remained out of the police's custody. On Monday, when Sonam was arrested, the overnight raids led to the arrest of other accused in the case.

So far, a total of five accused have been arrested. Syiem denied the possibility of contract killing saying that the  other accused were friends and joined as favour to Raj. "The three young people were friends, and one of them is a cousin of Raj. It was not a typical contract killing. Yes, the plan was to kill and they did it as a favour to their friend Raj," Syiem said.

Meanwhile, Raja's brother, Sachin Raghuvanshi, has demanded a narco test on Sonam and Raj. He said that the reports suggest that both of them have been misleading the investigators by blaming each other as the mastermind. "It appears Sonam and Kushwaha are colluding to misdirect the probe," he claimed.

Sachin further asserted that they couldn't have carried out the act on their own. Emphasising the need for the narco test, he said, "I believe more people are involved in the conspiracy, but they are still out of police reach. Their names may surface through narco analysis."
