Preparations are well underway for the 'Modi and US' event, set to take place at the Nassau Veterans Coliseum in Uniondale, New York, on September 22. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will engage with the Indian diaspora during this community event, which has been described as a celebration of the Indian-American diaspora by the organisers.

Over 25,000 people have registered for the event, vying for one of the 13,000 available seats, with 500 community organisations from 40 states joining as Welcome Partners. The 'Modi and US' event will feature a cultural extravaganza on two stages. The main stage will host "Echoes of India: A Journey of Art and Tradition," showcasing 400 nationally and internationally renowned artists.

Performers include Grammy-nominated Chandrika Tandon, singer Aishwarya Majumdar, Instagram sensation Ricky Pond and singer Rex D’Souza. Meanwhile, the outer stage will feature over 100 performers delivering community-led performances, celebrating India’s cultural diversity.

The event, organised by volunteers, follows a rigorous multi-stage registration process, involving Indian American organisations that pre-registered their members for free passes. General registration followed, with many prominent members of the Indian American community receiving special invites.

Sai Sagar Patnaik, the cultural show director, highlighted the significance of the performances, which will represent the vast diversity of India, spanning classical, folk and fusion styles. “The program celebrates India’s diversity with dances and music from all corners of the country,” Patnaik said as quoted by news agency ANI.

Suhag Shukla, the head of the organising committee for the ‘Modi and US’ event, encapsulated the spirit of the gathering, describing it as a celebration of the Indian-American diaspora, which plays a crucial role in India's soft power.

"Modi and US is truly about the connection between India and the US.," Shukla said. "It’s a celebration of the Indian-American community, our deep ties to our homeland, and the strong partnership between India and the US. The Indian diaspora is a key aspect of India's soft power, serving as cultural ambassadors who exemplify unity in diversity," she asserted.

Behind the scenes, 350 volunteers from 14 states are working across various organisational tasks to ensure the event’s success. Communication efforts have been ramped up to keep every section of the community informed. The spontaneous outpouring of support from across the Indian diaspora has been notable, with many community organisations contributing to the preparations.

More than 150 media professionals representing over 85 television, print and online outlets will cover the event. With the tagline "Progress Together," the 'Modi and US' event aims to celebrate the shared ethos of India and the United States, promoting unity, diversity and global well-being, organisers stated.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with other global leaders, is set to arrive in Wilmington, Delaware, on Saturday morning (local time) for the Quad Summit, hosted in US President Joe Biden's hometown. US President Biden will welcome the leaders of India, Australia and Japan, with plans to hold bilateral meetings with each of them.

Notably, this marks the first time President Biden invited foreign leaders to Wilmington, underscoring his close relationships with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
