Mohali Blackout Today: As tension between the border areas intensified following drone attacks by neighbouring Pakistan, Punjab's Mohali or SAS Nagar, administration has imposed strict restrictions in the district, particularly in the bordering sectors 45-47, in view of intelligence inputs suggesting a potential airstrike threat from the neighbouring country.

Under Section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, the directive was issued by the District Magistrate Komal Mittal on Friday, May 9.

The restriction mandates a complete blackout during night hours and includes several public safety restrictions.

The use of inverters, generators, and solar lights for streetlights, billboards, and other outdoor illumination has been completely prohibited until further notice to prevent any exploitation of public lighting that can attract drone or terror strikes.

As a precaution, the administration has also ordered that all movie theaters and commercial centres, like malls, be closed daily from 8 PM to 6 AM in the SAS Nagar.

It is strictly forbidden to use firecrackers or high-beam DJ or laser lights in the evening.

Unless there is an emergency, residents have been advised to remain indoors after blackout. Residents are required to minimise lighting and swiftly follow any government-issued directions in the case of a siren or other alarm signal.

The armed forces, police, authorised emergency personnel, and vital services like hospitals are exempted from the directive.
