Delhi Weather Today: Amid the ongoing heatwave conditions in Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted partly cloudy skies for Thursday, with a possibility of a thunderstorm accompanied by very light rain or drizzle. The maximum temperature is expected to reach around 46 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 30 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon has set in over Kerala and advanced into most parts of northeast India.
Monsoon Sets In Over Kerala And Northeast
Due to the influence of Cyclone Remal, the southwest monsoon arrived over the Kerala coast and parts of the northeast a day earlier than expected. Weather Scientists explained that Remal, which devastated West Bengal and Bangladesh on Sunday, had pulled the monsoon flow towards the Bay of Bengal, which could be one of the reasons for early onset over the northeast.
Earlier this month, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced the onset of monsoon over Kerala by May 31. Kerala has been receiving heavy rains for the past few days resulting in a surplus of May rainfall, the weather office data showed. Usually, the southwest monsoon begins in Kerala on June 1 and reaches Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, and Assam by June 5.
When Will Monsoon Reach Delhi
Delhi, which experienced record-breaking heat on Wednesday, is expected to see the arrival of the monsoon by the end of June. According to Mahesh Palawat, Vice President of Skymet, the monsoon is likely to reach Delhi by June 27, as reported by NDTV. The monsoon will hit Mumbai on June 10 and Bengaluru on 13 or 14 June.
Delhi Sees Highest Temperature Ever Recorded In India
On Wednesday, Delhi's Mungeshpur recorded 52.9 degrees Celsius, the highest temperature ever logged in the city. However, IMD said it could be due to an error and is examining sensors and data of the area's weather station.
"The maximum temperature over Delhi-NCR varied from 45.2 degrees Celsius to 49.1 degrees Celsius in different parts of the city. Mungeshpur reported 52.9 degrees Celsius as an outlier compared to other stations. It could be due to an error in the sensor or the local factor. IMD is examining the data and sensors," the department said in a statement.
Delhi Weather For Next 5 Days
According to the weather department, the capital city will see thunderstorms accompanied by very light rain or drizzle today. The maximum and minimum temperatures hover around 45 and 30 degrees Celsius, respectively. Dust storms and thunderstorms are predicted for the next two days and a thunderstorm with rain is predicted for June 2. Post June 2, Delhi will see strong surface winds during the daytime till June 5.
