Jagran Correspondent, Haldwani: With the arrival of the monsoon, rain-bearing clouds swept from the mountains to the plains, bringing widespread showers. Torrential rainfall lashed Haldwani and the surrounding areas continuously from Tuesday morning. By evening, the showers had turned the weather pleasant, providing much-needed relief from the intense heat prevailing over the last few days. Meanwhile, the Meteorological Centre has forecast that the rain will continue until July 6.
According to the Meteorological Centre, the maximum temperature in Haldwani dropped 4 degrees to 26 degrees Celsius compared to Monday. Meanwhile, 70 millimetre (mm) of rain was recorded in the last 24 hours.
Uttarakhand Weather Forecast
On Wednesday, rain continued in some areas, while other areas had overcast conditions. Haldwani experienced rain on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. Rain has been lashing Champawat since morning.
After intermittent rain throughout Tuesday night in Almora, the sky was overcast this morning. Following a warning from the Meteorological Centre, the District Magistrate declared a holiday for schools from first to 12 grade and Anganwadi centres.
Kotdwar has been experiencing intermittent rain since midnight. The district headquarters, New Tehri, and surrounding areas have been covered in dense clouds since morning. The weather remains variable in Chamoli. The Badrinath Highway is currently operational.
The Haridwar district headquarters and surrounding areas have been experiencing light rain since morning. The rain has brought down temperatures, bringing relief to residents from the humid heat.
The weather in Roorkee has also changed. It has been raining intermittently since early morning. The sky is still overcast. The rain has brought relief to people from the scorching heat.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rain alert for the northern and eastern states of the country. Along with rainfall, several states, including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal, are also expected to witness thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. The residents of these states are likely to get much-needed relief from the scorching heat due to the fresh downpour.
As per the weather department, Delhi and the nearby cities are expected to witness rain and dust storms for the full day on Wednesday, providing relief to Delhiites. It stated that moderate storms, along with lightning and rainfall, are expected in some regions of Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Hapur. While the maximum temperature in Delhi is likely to be calculated at 34 degrees Celsius, the minimum temperature is likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius.
