MP: Bhopal district administration on Tuesday sealed the basement and office of a coaching academy for IIT-JEE and NEET aspirants. The move comes after Delhi's Old Rajendra Nagar tragedy that claimed lives of three students. IAS aspirants Shreya Yadav from Uttar Pradesh, Tanya Soni from Telangana and Navin Dalwin from Kerala died after the basement of Rau's IAS Study Circle, being used as a library, got flooded due to rains in the national capital on July 27.
"We have sealed the Aurous Academy. During the inspection, it appeared to us that classes may have been conducted in the basement and to avoid any possibility of an accident in future, we have sealed the office of the institute. We have also closed the way to the basement and will ensure that it cannot be used. The way to the basement has also been sealed,” said Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ashutosh Sharma, as quoted by news agency ANI.
"We will issue a notice and will investigate other points as well. We will submit our report to the government and if any other irregularities are found then action will be taken accordingly," he added.
"During inspection, we are checking fire safety and checking whether any kind of activities are going on in the basement or not. We will also check the lift audit and if there are exit doors or not. Whether students have been briefed about emergency situations or not. We look after all these things," the officer further stated.
"All the coaching institutes are being inspected collectively to assess the safety parameters and action is being taken if any irregularities are found. SDM and police are jointly checking the safety according to all the parameters,” Additional Commissioner of Police (ACP) Akshay Chaudhary said, as quoted by ANI.
The ACP informed that a check is being done to see if the campus is safe in case of fire and waterlogging for the safety of students.
Earlier on Monday, Madhya Pradesh chief minister Mohan Yadav directed civic bodies to inspect coaching classes operating in basements of buildings and ensure safety measures are in place on such premises.
The decision was taken at a review meeting at the state secretariat following deaths of three civil services aspirants at a water-logged coaching centre in Delhi.
In compliance with the chief minister's directive, instructions were given to look into the drainage system and ensure safe electrical arrangements in case of waterlogging at coaching centres operating in basements, principal secretary (Revenue) Nikunj Kumar Srivastava said.
