A man from Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore district staged a dramatic protest on Wednesday by tying multiple complaint letters to a string around his body and crawling to the divisional commissioner’s office. Bishankhedi resident Bajrangi said he took this extreme step to draw attention to the severe water shortage in his village, a claim refuted by local authorities.

Bajrangi stated that he had repeatedly submitted complaints to the collector, minister and chief minister but received no response. Frustrated by the inaction, he resorted to this demonstration, carrying a trail of complaints. He further accused the village sarpanch of corruption and deliberately obstructing efforts to resolve the crisis.

“I have arrived here for water. I had submitted applications to the collector, the minister and the chief minister to highlight the water crisis in the village. When nothing happened, I came here with a trail of complaints,” he said as quoted by news agency PTI.

Officials, however, dismissed Bajrangi’s allegations. Public Health Engineering Department’s executive engineer, Pradeep Saxena, said an inspection was conducted on Wednesday, revealing water scarcity only near the community center. To address the issue, authorities dug a borewell and installed a pump to store water in a tank.

The village, home to 2,100 residents, has 20 hand pumps, 12 of which are functional. Saxena also claimed that most households have their own water sources, benefiting even those without private access.

Madhya Pradesh has witnessed similar unconventional protests in the past. In July last year, an elderly farmer in Mandsaur rolled on the collectorate floor, alleging inaction on his land-grabbing complaint. In December, a farmer, along with his family, walked on their knees at a magistrate’s office in Dewas over a land dispute. While officials later reviewed their case, they stated the matter had already been settled in court.
