Mukhtar Ansari Death News:  Mukhtar Ansari, once a feared name in eastern Uttar Pradesh died on Thursday evening after he suffered a heart attack in the Banda jail. Mukhtar was brought to the district's Rani Durgawati Medical College after he was found unconscious in his cell, said sources citing senior police officials. Following his death, Uttar Pradesh Police has beefed up the security in the several districts of Mau, Ghazipur and Varanasi.

Who Was Mukhtar Ansari?

Mukhtar Ansari was a notorious eastern Uttar Pradesh gangster who had multiple cases including murder, extortion and kidnapping. Mukhtar Ansari had been sentenced by the court in seven cases in the last 17 months. Out of the 65 cases pending against Mukhtar, 20 were currently under hearing in the court. Varanasi court had sentenced him to life imprisonment in the Awadhesh Rai murder case.

Mukhtar Ansari: Journey From Gangster To Politician

Since his release from prison in 1995, Mukhtar Ansari, a resident of Muhammadabad in the Ghazipur district, established his dominance in Mau. After he joined the Bahujan Samaj Party, he organised large rallies in Mau, showcasing his power, and became a legislator in 1996. However, in 2005, three years after being re-elected as a legislator, Mukhtar instigated violence in Mau, resulting in a month-long turmoil, including the unprecedented shutdown of railway operations, the first time in Mau's history.

Despite facing allegations of fueling violence, even after being released from jail, he continued to wield influence in criminal activities in various areas. On August 29, 2009, Mukhtar's shooters murdered prominent contractor Ajay Prakash Singh alias Manna at Gazipur crossroads over commission disputes. The bloodshed didn't cease there. On March 19, 2010, Ram Singh Maurya, a witness to the murder, and his security personnel Satish Kumar were brutally killed in broad daylight in front of the RTO office in the South Tola area. Mukhtar was acquitted in the Manna murder case due to lack of evidence.

Criminal cases against Mukhtar Ansari

On December 15, 2023, Mukhtar Ansari was sentenced to five and a half years in prison in a 27-year-old case of threatening Mahavir Prasad Rungta, brother of Nand Kishore Rungta, a coal businessman from Varanasi and treasurer of Vishwa Hindu Parishad.
