Multiple Suspected Pak Drones Cross LoC, International Border Into J&K; Army Opens Fire

Several suspected drones were spotted hovering over forward areas along the International Border (IB) and Line of Control (LoC) in Samba, Rajouri and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday evening.

The security forces said that all the flying objects came from the Pakistan side and returned after hovering over Indian territory for a few minutes.

The officials added that a search operation was launched on the ground after noticing the suspected drone activity in the forward areas.

After suspecting drone movement, Army troops guarding the Nowshera sector along the LoC in Rajouri, fired from medium and light machine guns over Gania-Kalsian village around 6.35 pm, they said.

Over Khabbar village, another drone was noticed at 6.35 pm. The officials said that a flying object with a blinking light came from Dharmsal village in Kalakote and moved further towards Bharakh.

A similar suspected drone movement was spotted 40 minutes later over Chak Babral village in Ramgarh sector of Samba. The drone-like object, with a blinking light, hovered for a few minutes around 7.15 pm.

In Poonch district, another drone-like object was spotted moving from Tain towards Topa in Mankote sector at 6.25 pm.

The suspicious drone activity comes days after the security forces recovered an arms consignment, which was suspected of being dropped by a Pakistani drone.

On Friday night, security forces recovered the consignment in Paloora village of Ghagwal near the IB in Samba district.

The consignment comprised two pistols, three magazines, 16 rounds and a grenade, they added.

The officials had said that the arms and ammunition were meant for militant activities in the border area, and timely detection and recovery prevented possible misuse of the same.

The recovery incident and the drone activity have put security agencies on high alert, ahead of Republic Day.
