Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Update: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project is gaining significant pace, with the Gujarat stations on the high-speed corridor nearing completion. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Railway Ministry said that these stations on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor will redefine passengers’ experience and comfort.
“The Bullet Train stations on the Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor in Gujarat are nearing completion. With modern design, cultural identity, seamless connectivity and eco-friendly features, the stations will redefine passenger comfort and set new benchmarks in travel,” Ministry of Railways stated.

Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw also confirmed that India’s bullet train service is expected to launch soon. Once operational, the service will cut travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to two hours and seven minutes.

“The first bullet train from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will start very soon, and the work on the project is going on at a fast pace. When it starts running, the journey from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will take only two hours and seven minutes,” Vaishnaw said.
Details About Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train
- Spanning 508 kilometres, India’s first bullet train service from Mumbai to Ahmedabad will run at a speed of 320 kilometres per hour, cutting travel time between the two cities to two hours and seven minutes.
- The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train will start at Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) in Mumbai and will link Gujarat’s Vapi, Surat, Anand, Vadodara, and Ahmedabad.
- The high-speed train will pass through Gujarat, Maharashtra and Dadra & Nagar Haveli with 12 stations planned at Mumbai, Thane, Virar, Boisar, Vapi, Billimora, Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara, Anand, Ahmedabad and Sabarmati.
- According to the government officials, the total cost Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project is estimated to be around Rs 1,08,000 crore, out of which Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is funding 81 per cent i.e. Rs. 88,000 crore and the balance 19 per cdnt i.e. Rs. 20,000 crore will be funded through equity contributions from the Ministry of Railways (50%) and governments of Maharashtra (25%) and Gujarat (25%).
- The Gujarat portion of the high-speed corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati is planned to be completed by December 2027.
Union Railway Minister Vaishnaw said that the entire bullet train project from Mumbai to the Sabarmati section is expected to be completed by December 2025. Once operational, it will revolutionise connectivity and passenger comfort.
