Mumbai Rains: Amid heavy rain in Maharashtra’s capital Mumbai, another tree collapse incident has left a person dead. The victim has been identified as 63-year-old Yunus Kundawala. The man was killed after a tree crushed a shop amid intense downpour in Kurla area on Sunday.
This is the city's second fatal tree-fall incident in less than a week, civic officials said, as quoted by news agency PTI. Earlier on June 30, 11-year-old Vihan Shrivastav was killed after a tree fell on his school bus in Mumbai’s Chembur. The bus was carrying students of Universal High School on Road Number 11 when the incident happened at around 2:45 pm, as per Mumbai fire brigade.

Sunday's incident occurred around 12.40 pm near the Hindi BMC School in the Naupada locality of Kurla West, officials said. Yunus Kundawala was extricated from the debris and rushed to Fauzia Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
He said that the fire brigade, police, BEST and civic staff rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue and clearance operations.
Amid torrential rains, a tree also collapsed in front of industrialist Mukesh Ambani's security convoy in a western suburb, briefly obstructing traffic.
Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Saturday prompting a fresh red alert from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Sunday. Monsoon showers have been battering the city over the last few days, causing instances of landslides, waterlogging and severe traffic jams.
Mumbai On Red Alert
The IMD has put Mumbai on a red alert for rain on Sunday. The weather body has issued an alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall. Following this, the BMC has advised residents to only leave their homes if absolutely necessary.
IMD has also issued a rain alert for several Maharashtra districts, including Thane and Palghar for Sunday. According to the IMD, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected in Palghar district on July 5. A red alert for heavy rainfall has also been issued for some areas.
