Navratri 2023: Thousands of devotees thronged to temples across several cities in India on Sunday morning to mark the first day of Navratri, the nine-day festival that celebrates the victory of good over evil and the power of the divine feminine. Navratri, which literally means “nine nights’’ in Sanskrit, is one of the widely celebrated festivals in India where devotees worship different avatars of Hindu Goddess Durga, mainly in the form of Kali, Lakshmi and Saraswati.

Navratri, which is not only a religious festival but also a cultural and social one is celebrated with great fervour and enthusiasm across India, especially in Gujarat, West Bengal and Maharashtra while each region has its own unique customs and traditions to mark the occasion.
