The NDA candidate, CP Radhakrishnan, has registered a victory as the next Vice President of India by securing 452 preference votes and defeating the opposition candidate Sudershan Reddy.

The VP candidate from the opposition, Sudershan Reddy, in a letter, expressed his gratitude towards the opposition for choosing him as a joint candidate for the polls, as he accepted the outcome, saying that the ideological battle will continue.

On the other hand, the opposition affirmed that the result was ‘no significant dent’ as the opposition candidate, Sudershan Reddy, registered an increase of 14 per cent votes in comparison to the votes secured by the last VP candidate from the opposition.

Congress MP, Imran Masood, said that this year the opposition candidate received a 40 per cent share of total votes. The number in the last election was 26 per cent, hence the opposition is ‘only gaining’.

RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav accused the BJP of removing Jagdeep Dhankar, asking whether he was really ill or made ill.

The Secretary in charge of Communication, Congress, Jairam Ramesh, lauded the unity of opposition MPs, stating that the opposition’s joint candidate Justice (retd) B. Sudershan Reddy secured 40% of the vote.  He further said, “In 2022, the Opposition had received 26% of the vote in the Vice Presidential Elections.”
The Election Commission on Tuesday declared NDA’s CP Radhakrishnan as India’s next Vice President. Radhakrishnan, a senior BJP leader from Tamil Nadu and two-time Lok Sabha MP, will now assume charge as the 15th Vice President of India. He succeeds Jagdeep Dhankhar.
 

According to Rajya Sabha General Secretary PC Mody, a total of 767 votes were polled, out of which 752 were found valid and 15 were invalid. The quota to decide the winner was set as 377.
