Student who have cleared the NEET entrance exam and are waiting for the counselling to start are in dilemma as the fate of the medical entrance test is uncertain owing to the CBI probe in the alleged irregularities in it. The students are worried that the exam might get cancelled if crookedness comes to fore in the exam in the federal agency probe. The counselling of the exam will begin on July 6 while the CBI will file its report on July 8.
This has now become important to see whether the government will conduct counseling two days earlier or wait for the CBI report on July 8. In such circumstances, there is a state of confusion among the candidates. They are worried that if the exam gets canceled, all their efforts will go in vain and they will have to prepare again. However, this could also be an opportunity for the students who haven’t performed well in the exam.
Paper Leak Allegations:
The NEET UG exam was conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on May 5. After the exam, many candidates reported on social media that the paper was leaked. The NTA investigated these the matter and discovered that there were indeed irregularities. Students across the country launched fervid protest seeking reexam and action against the NTA.
The students said that NTA had put their future in jeopardy. They mentioned that they have been preparing for the medical exam for several months.
EOW Probe:
A comprehensive probe in NEET paper leak case was launched by Bihar Police. As many as 18 persons from across the state were nabbed from across the state. The Economic Offence Wing (EOW) also confiscated charred fragments of question papers, mobile phones, SIM cards, laptops, post-dated checks of the arrested individuals, and reference question papers provided by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
CBI Probe:
The case of the alleged paper leak was handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) after recommendation by the Education Ministry. The federal probe agency registered several case and interrogated the arrested accused. Raids were also carried out across several locations in Bihar. It will present report on July 8.
Education Ministry’s High-Level Committee:
A high-level committee, under the supervision of former ISRO chief K Radhakrishnan, was formed to look into provisions to curb irregularities in the national-level entrance exams. The seven-member committee includes Dr Randeep Guleria, Professor BJ Rao, Professor Ramamurti Ke, Pankaj Bansal, Aditya Mittal, and Govind Jayaswal.
The committee held its first meeting on Tuesday and discussed the reforms which could be implemented to curb irregularities in the exams. The meeting also laid emphasis on clear roles and better accountability for employees at all levels.

K Radhakrishnan said they will also seek suggestions from students and their parents to ensure that exams are administered transparently and efficiently. The committee will submit its report within two months.
