NEET-UG Paper Leak: As the hearing on a batch of fresh petitions related to the controversial NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance examination was underway in the Supreme Court on Monday, the bench raised made several observations and posed various questions before the Centre. The three-member bench, headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, observed that there was no room for doubt that a paper leak did indeed happen, according to Bar and Bench.
NEET-UG Row: SC Says Paper Leak An Established Fact
After the Centre's counsel told the bench that only one of the cases registered across the country in connection with alleged malpractices in the conduct of NEET-UG 2024 pertained to an instance of "paper leak", the apex court, as quoted by Bar and Bench, remarked, "The fact that sanctity of the exam has been compromised is beyond doubt. The paper leak is an admitted fact."
The CJI-led bench further said that only the nature of the paper leak is left to be ascertained, adding that if the leakage is not "extensive" then there is no need to cancel the exam held on May 5 this year. "...But before we order a re test we must be conscious of extent of leak as we are dealing with 23 lakh students," the bench was quoted as saying by Bar and Bench.
