NEET UG 2024 Re-Exam Update:  The central government on Friday opposed the cancellation of the NEET UG 2024 exam in the Supreme Court, claiming that it would jeopardise the future of lakhs of honest candidates. In its affidavit in the apex court, the union government said that it would be not rational to scrap the entire exam as it would impact the candidates who had honestly attempted the NEET-UG 2024. The document further stated that the CBI has been tasked to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the alleged irregularities of paper leaks and others.

This came as students and parents remained hopeful for a re-exam of the tainted NEET-UG 2024 examination. Large-scale protests erupted after irregularities in the coveted medical entrance exam surfaced after the result declaration on June 4. The NEET row reached the parliament with the opposition cornering the government on the issues of NEET-UG, NEET-PG and UGC-NET.

Why Centre Opposing Re-NEET?

While justifying its objection to the Re-NEET, the central government stated that as there was no proof that a large-scale breach of confidentiality happened in the NEET-UG 2024, scrapping the entire exam would not be rational. It further said that the Union of India is committed to "conducting all competitive exams in a fair and transparent manner."

"In the absence of any proof of any large-scale breach of confidentiality in a pan-India examination, it would not be rational to scrap the entire examination and the results already declared. It is submitted that in any examination, there are competing rights that have been created whereby the interests of a large number of students who have taken the examination without adopting any alleged unfair means must not also be jeopardized," the affidavit said as quoted by Bar and Bench.
