A high alert was declared on Tuesday across the borders of West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttarakhand as protests against corruption led by Gen-Z intensified in Nepal, prompting concerns over possible breaches of law and order along the porous frontier. Security forces have been instructed to remain on maximum alert and step up vigil, while central agencies issued a major security advisory cautioning that miscreants could exploit the ongoing violent protests in Nepal to trigger unrest in adjoining Indian states.
Nepalese Prime Minister KP Oli resigned on Tuesday as violent youth-led protests against corruption and a social media ban continued for the second day, leaving at least 19 dead and hundreds injured in Kathmandu and nearby towns. Though the government lifted the ban late Monday night, demonstrations flared again, with protesters storming the Singha Durbar administrative complex after breaking through its western gate, intensifying unrest across the country.

Security has been heightened in Bihar, which shares a 729-km porous border with Nepal, with seven districts, East Champaran, West Champaran, Sitamarhi, Madhubani, Araria, Supaul, and Kishanganj, placed on high alert. The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), tasked with guarding the border, has intensified surveillance and deployed additional troops, The Tribune reported.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, meanwhile, urged people to maintain peace in the northern districts bordering Nepal. The India-Nepal border at Panitanki town in West Bengal's Darjeeling has been put on high alert, and Superintendent of Police (SP) Praveen Prakash said police patrolling in the border area has been intensified.
“We love Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. We love all the bordering countries. I also urge residents of Siliguri, Kalimpong, and other areas near the Nepal border to maintain peace and avoid activities that could create any trouble because it is not our problem. Let them bring back normalcy. We cannot interfere; this is not our matter," Banerjee said.
Uttar Pradesh-Nepal Border On High Alert
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and DGP Rajeev Krishna have ordered police in all border districts adjoining Nepal to remain on high alert round the clock. Uttar Pradesh shares its border with Nepal through seven districts, Shravasti, Balrampur, Bahraich, Pilibhit, Lakhimpur Kheri, Siddharthnagar, and Maharajganj. On Tuesday, DGP Rajeev Krishna issued strict instructions to strengthen border surveillance, increase patrolling, and deploy additional forces to prevent any unlawful activities or disturbances from spilling across the border.
