Delhi Metro Stations Closed: In view of a protest call at Jantar Mantar on October 2, the Delhi Metro has closed entry and exit at several stations in and around the area.
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has informed commuters that entry and exit at the affected stations will remain closed until further notice. However, interchange facilities will continue to be available at select stations.
The move comes after several social activists, student leaders and opposition parties announced plans to gather at Jantar Mantar at 11 am on October 2.
The Delhi Police, however, has refused to grant permission for the proposed protest against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls.
Despite the lack of permission, security has been tightened around Jantar Mantar, with personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces deployed in anticipation of a possible gathering. According to PTI, citing police sources, an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 people could attend the protest, prompting heightened security measures in and around the area.
Restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) have also been imposed at Jantar Mantar.
