"Brutally Attacked": CPI(M)
Condemning the incident on X (formerly Twitter), the CPI(M) alleged that Brittas was "brutally attacked" by the police and left on the roadside in an injured state, stating that "Delhi Police has crossed all limits."
"Manhandled, Dragged, Assaulted And Misbehaved"
Brittas posted on X, "Manhandled, dragged, assaulted and misbehaved inside a police vehicle and dumped by the roadside - for the crime of speaking to the media."
Manhandled, dragged, assaulted n misbehaved inside a police vehicle and dumped by the roadside - for the crime of speaking to the media. This is not merely an assault on an MP. It is an assault on democratic freedoms and the rule of law. More chillingly, it happened within hours of the Supreme Court issuing directions to safeguard peaceful protest and constitutional rights. I have written to the Hon’ble President of India @rashtrapatibhvn , the Chairman of the Rajya Sabha @VPIndia and the Chief Justice of India seeking urgent intervention and fixing accountability for the police personnel, and action on the question of parliamentary privilege. The Government cannot intimidate democracy into silence. It cannot substitute the force of the baton for the force of debate. And it shouldn’t expect the people to surrender their constitutional freedoms merely because those in power find dissent inconvenient. The strength of a democracy lies not in its capacity to suppress dissent, but in its ability to address it.

Following the incident, Brittas wrote to President Droupadi Murmu, the Rajya Sabha chairman and the chief justice of India (CJI), seeking urgent intervention, accountability and an independent investigation into the alleged police assault.
In another post, he stated that protesters would not back down even if dragged through streets, beaten with lathis, or trampled with boots.
Before his detention, Brittas claimed the Modi government had lost the moral right to remain in office for allegedly refusing to heed the Supreme Court's words, adding that "every bloodshed on Delhi streets will have repercussions on this government" and calling for Shah's resignation.
"Unacceptable And Indefensible": Omar Abdullah
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also criticised the police action, stating, "Unacceptable use of force by Delhi Police. Beating up an unarmed protester, setting aside the fact that in this case the victim is actually an elected member of parliament, is unacceptable under any circumstances & is indefensible. I join all my @JKNC_ colleagues in condemning this reprehensible brutality."

M A Baby Alleges Students, Youth Activists Assaulted Inside Police Vehicles
Baby, after visiting Brittas, alleged that detained student and youth activists were assaulted inside police vehicles, describing them as "torture camps."
In a post on X, Baby stated, "Scores of student and youth activists, including SFI President Adarsh M Saji and DYFI CEC member Jaick C Thomas, were assaulted inside police vehicles."
He further alleged that women protesters were attacked and detained for hours, adding, "The police have turned Delhi into a war zone."
Visited Comrade John Brittas at RML Hospital in Delhi, where he was admitted after being brutally attacked by the Delhi Police. The police have turned Delhi into a war zone. Scores of student and youth activists, including SFI President Adarsh M Saji and DYFI CEC member Jaick C Thomas, were assaulted inside police vehicles that have been turned into torture camps. Women are being cruelly attacked and detained for hours inside mobile jails. Modi, Amit Shah and Mohan Bhagwat must not be under the impression that unleashing state repression will kill the movement to oust Gyanesh Kumar. The students and youth are fighting to save our democracy. They will not be deterred by these cowardly attempts to break their bodies. Their spirit will not be broken, and their resolve will only grow stronger.

The protest was organised for a second consecutive day in Delhi to demand the resignation of CEC Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls. The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which organised the demonstration at Jantar Mantar, stated that the movement would continue despite police stopping demonstrators.
