DUSU Election 2026: Who All Are Contesting For President, Vice President, Secretary And Joint Secretary Posts

As counting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) election is underway, several prominent student leaders have emerged. Key figures attracting attention include ABVP’s Yash Dabas, NSUI’s Vijay Meena, and the Left AISA-SFI alliance's Ananya Raturi.

The annual DUSU elections remain a highlight of student politics in the capital. This year's contest features candidates vying for four central panel posts: president, vice president, secretary, and joint secretary.

Let’s have a look at the presidential candidates:

Yash Dabas (ABVP)

Yash Dabas is Akhil Bharatiya Vidharthi Parishad (ABVP)'s candidate for DUSU president and has many accolades to his name, including being an international-level tennis player. He hails from Delhi's Kanjhawala and completed his graduation from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College and is currently studying in the DU's Department of Buddhist Studies.

Dabas claimed that he has participated in International Tennis Federation competitions in Spain, Australia and Serbia.

He was also selected for CBSE Nationals, SGFI Nationals, Khelo India and the All India University Games 2023, and represented DU at the North India University Games.

Days before the DUSU elections, Dabas's academic record came under scrutiny when a purported marksheet circulated on social media, prompting calls for students to "choose wisely." However, the ABVP dismissed these claims as a "smear campaign," according to a September 11 PTI report.

Vijay Shankar Meena (NSUI)

Vijay Meena, contesting from the National Students Union of India (NSUI), is in the tight race for the presidential post. Meena originally hails from Rajasthan and has pursued graduation from his home state. Like Dabas, Meena too is pursuing a master's degree from DU in Buddhist Studies and has frequently raised his voice for student rights, scholarships, hostel shortages and more in the past.

As the voting ended on Friday, the NSUI candidate said, "We all worked incredibly hard together. ABVP is completely rattled, seeing the hard work put in by my brothers and the love they have for me. The result will be declared tomorrow."

The previous day, Meena noted that the ABVP appeared rattled by NSUI’s strong campaign efforts and voiced optimism regarding his panel's prospects in the DUSU elections.

Ananya Raturi (AISA-SFI)

Raturi who is representing the All India Students Association and Students Federation Of India (AISA-SFI) joint panel is a PGDAV College student and an AISA member. In the past, Raturi has been involved in student movements on critical issues including sexual harassment and accountability on campus, according to the alliance.

She also has a prominent presence on social media. On Thursday, she posted glimpses from the last day of campaigning for the DUSU elections. The AISA-SFI alliance has also fielded Akshat Shikhar for vice president, Stanzin Deskyong for secretary, and B Parijaat for joint secretary.

While Yash Dabas, Vijay Shankar Meena, and Ananya Raturi are the leading contenders for the presidency, four other candidates, Ashmit Kumar (PGDAV College), Ejaj Mansuri (Campus Law Centre), Samarth Beniwal (Department of Buddhist Studies), and Sameer Kumar (Ramjas College), are also in the game.

Candidates For Vice President

Ishu Maurya (ABVP)

Ishu Maurya hails from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, and completed his graduation from Satyawati College, University of Delhi. He has been associated with ABVP since 2021.

Vir Chatarth (NSUI)

Vir Chatrath, a Delhi resident, is contesting for the post of DUSU vice president. He has completed his graduation and is currently pursuing a first-year MA in Buddhist Studies at Delhi University.

Akshat Sikhar (AISA-SFI)

Akshat Shikhar is from Allahabad and was active in protests related to NEET UG 2026.

Secretary Candidates

Namrata Choudhary (NSUI)

Namrata Choudhary is the NSUI candidate for secretary. A Delhi resident, she completed her graduation from SPM College, University of Delhi, and is pursuing a second-year M.A. in Buddhist Studies at the university.

Riya Chhawadi (ABVP)

Riya Chhawadi is from Modband village in Badarpur, Delhi, and comes from a farming family. She studied at Sri Aurobindo College, University of Delhi, and is an inter-college-level basketball player.

Stanzin Deskyong (Left)

Stanzin Deskyong is a first-year MSc Mathematics student at Hindu College and has previously served as the Vice President of the Ramjas College Students' Union. She belongs to the ST community of Leh-Ladakh and is the first Ladakhi female student to contest the DUSU election.

Joint Secretary Candidates

Lakshya Raj Singh (ABVP)

Lakshya Raj Singh, originally from Churu district in Rajasthan, completed his graduation in Political Science from Sri Guru Tegh Bahadur Khalsa College, University of Delhi.

Gopal Choudhary (NSUI)

Gopal Choudhary, originally from Rajasthan, is contesting for the post of joint secretary. He graduated from Satyawati College, University of Delhi, and is currently pursuing a first-year MA in Buddhist Studies.

NSUI says Choudhary has worked on student-related issues and is focused on grassroots engagement and strengthening student representation before the university administration.

B Parijaat (SFI-AISA)

B Parijaat is a first-year MA English student at Hansraj College, and a former student of PGDAV College. He is representing the Left-student unity AISA-SFI panel with the campaign slogan "Badlo DUSU!, Parijaat has been raising demands on affordable housing, ensuring hostels for all students, and enacting a rent control act in Delhi.
