Jagran Correspondent, Ludhiana: In a shocking incident, a woman died by suicide at her marital home after sending a 1-minute 20-second video to her mother via WhatsApp, detailing the alleged assault and harassment by her in-laws.
Alarmed by the video, her mother tried to contact her, but she had already died by then. The deceased has been identified as Shamina alias Shama. She was married about 11 years ago to Ajay Mehra alias Ajju, a resident of Ludhiana's Rishi Nagar area.
According to the family, Shama started facing abuse after marriage. The family alleged that their daughter also faced torture from her husband and alleged harassment from her in-laws.
Police start investigation
According to police, the woman shared her distress with her mother in a video she recorded before her suicide. She is seen crying in the video, blaming her husband Ajay Mehra, her maternal aunt Satyo, and her daughter-in-law Rimpi for her death.
According to family members, the woman sent the video to her mother via WhatsApp. The police have started an investigation into the incident, considering the video as crucial evidence in the case. Police are investigating the video's contents and other circumstances.
Husband informed mother, then absconded
After her mother failed to connect to her, she got a call from her daughter's husband, who shared the tragic news. The woman's husband is absconding since then. Upon receiving the information, police arrived at the scene and began investigating the matter.

Based on a complaint from the deceased's mother, Tibba police station registered a case against Ajay Mehra, Satyo, and Rimpi. The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem.
