A National Institute of Technology (NIT), Jamshedpur student allegedly died by suicide after being disturbed by exam stress, police said. The boy has been identified as Devyanshu Gandhi, a 20-year-old B Tech student

Devyanshu Gandhi was taken to a hospital from a residential building on Friday night. The doctors later declared him dead, police said, as per an Indian Express report.

Devyanshu’s family had been living with him for the last six months due to his mental health condition, police said. The NIT, Jamshedpur student’s father Brij Kishor was present in Jamshedpur at the time of the incident.

“His parents informed us that he was severely disturbed by exam stress and had missed three exams in the second semester. On Friday, he skipped his physics exam…” said Vinay Kumar, RIT police station officer-in-charge, as quoted by Indian Express.

According to the station officer-in-charge, Devyanshu Gandhi had previously tried to end his life. “He was under medication after undergoing treatment at a mental health facility in Ranchi. However, over the past week, he had stopped taking his medicines… he acted as if he was swallowing them but threw them away,” the police officer said.

The police said that investigation into the case is underway and they were trying to finf possible reasons behind the unfortunate move.
