Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday sparked controversy with a statement on women's role in population control during his address in the state assembly. He explained how women's education contributes to population control while presenting data from the latest caste census. The video of his statements quickly went viral on social media, drawing criticism from the BJP and social media users.
The BJP's Bihar unit labeled Nitish Kumar as "the most vulgar politician in the history of Indian politics" and called for a ban on his double-meaning dialogues in public.

In a post on X, the BJP Bihar unit wrote, “We have never seen a vulgar politician like Nitish Kumar in Indian politics… worm of an adult B-grade film has entered his brain… There should be a ban on his double-meaning dialogues in public.”

Union Minister and BJP leader Giriraj Singh stated that Kumar had lost his mental balance and was unfit to represent a civilised society, urging him to resign.
“Nitish Kumar’s has lost his mental balance. The kind of indecent statement he has given in the Assembly has made him no longer fit to represent civilised society. He should resign,” he wrote on X.

Social media users also called out Kumar for his “crude” and “obscene” remark on women.
In response, Nitish's Deputy Tejashwi Yadav defended the statement, suggesting it was about sex' education and could be misinterpreted. He highlighted that sex' education is taught in schools, and the CM's remarks were practical suggestions to curb population growth.
Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), demanded an apology from Nitish Kumar, stating that his remarks were an insult to the dignity and respect every woman deserves. The NCW called for accountability against such derogatory language in a democracy.

“NCW on behalf of every woman in this country demands an immediate and unequivocal apology from CM Nitish Kumar. His crass remarks in the Vidhan Sabha are an affront to the dignity and respect that every woman deserves,” the NCW Chief said.
“Such derogatory and cheap language used during his speech is a dark stain on our society. If a leader can make such comments so openly in a democracy, one can only imagine the horror the state must be enduring under his leadership. We stand firm against such behaviour and call for accountability,” she added.
