India stated on Thursday that its diplomats in Canada are under surveillance and facing growing threats, intimidation, and harassment. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal called this situation totally unacceptable.

“We had asked for security to be provided for our diplomats where the consular camp was to be held and those have not been provided by the Canadian side… Yes, the threats have increased," Jaiswal said during a press briefing.

Jaiswal stated that Indian diplomats are under surveillance in Canada, calling it 'totally unacceptable'. He added that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar has addressed the issue and that India has raised strong objections with Canada.

India Slams Canada For Blocking Australia Today’s Social Media Pages

Jaiswal further criticised Canada for blocking the social media pages of the prominent diaspora outlet Australia Today shortly after it aired a press conference with EAM Jaishankar and Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Jaiswal expressed surprise at the timing, labelling Canada’s action as hypocritical concerning freedom of speech, and pointed to it as another example of Canada’s selective stance on the matter.

Highlighting why Canada has blocked Australia Today, Jaiswal said, "One was Canada making allegations and a pattern has developed without any specific evidence. The second thing he highlighted was surveillance of Indian diplomats happening in Canada, which he termed as unacceptable. The third thing which he highlighted was the political space which has been given in Canada to anti-India elements."

MEA Condemns Attack On Hindu Temple In Brampton

Jaiswal also condemned the recent attack on a Hindu temple in Brampton, Canada. He called on the Canadian government to uphold the rule of law and ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice, expressing hope that appropriate action will be taken.

"We condemn the attack on the temple in Brampton. We also called upon the Canadian Govt to uphold the rule of law and to bring to justice people who purported the violence. those. We hope the Canadian Govt will take due action," said Jaiswal
