Noida International Airport Update: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the first phase of the much-awaited Noida International Airport at Jewar on March 28. The airport is likely to provide a major boost to the infrastructure of Delhi-NCR and is also set to improve connectivity across north India. It will provide an additional option to the flyers and is also expected to reduce the traffic congestion in the capital city. Apart from this, the airport is also likely to boost the financial activities in the region.

Alternative To IGI Airport

Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport currently serves as the only major airport in Delhi-NCR and serves as the entry point for the travellers to the northern states. However, demands were raised for a second airport in the region after the passengers faced inconveniences due to the growing numbers. Apart from this, several major regions of Delhi witnessed heavy congestion, especially at the peak hours, due to the rush around the airport. The Noida airport is likely to solve this problem, providing major relief to the daily commuters.

Airport To Boost Connectivity

The airport is located along Yamuna Expressway, linking it to several regions, including western Uttar Pradesh, parts of Haryana, and Delhi. The flyers of nearby states will be able to reach the airport without entering the national capital, saving a lot of time.

Noida Airport Details

The officials, while providing details, stated that the airport is being developed in four phases along with a multi-modal cargo hub. They asserted that the first phase features one runway and one terminal. Once operational, the airport is expected to handle around 12 million passengers annually and 70 million flyers upon completion of all the phases. It is one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects and highlights the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s broader vision of building a strong aviation ecosystem.
