Jagran Correspondent, Noida | A 70-year-old man drowned in a drain in Sector 66, Mamura, on Wednesday. The deceased has been identified as Rumal Singh, a resident of Mamura Street No. 7. According to police, the man's body was found face-down in an open drain behind a transformer.
Passersby immediately pulled him out, but by then his hands and legs had become paralysed. He was taken to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. Police have sent the body for a post-mortem.
Locals Allege Civic Apathy
Locals are angry about the open drain, claiming that civic authorities ignore safety. Police said they have launched an investigation into the matter.
According to police, a call was received through Dial 112 at Phase 3 police station about a man's body found in a drain in Mamura. Upon receiving the information, the local police immediately arrived at the scene, informing the forensic team.
Initial investigations revealed that the deceased lived in Mamura and his ancestral home is in Meerut. The forensic team inspected the scene. There were no visible injuries on the deceased's body. The deceased's family was informed. A Panchnama (inquest report) was completed, and the body was sent for post-mortem. Other necessary legal action is being taken. It should be noted that in the recent past, other deaths have occurred due to falling into open drains and pits.
6-Year-Old Boy Dies After Falling Into Borewell Pit Greater Noida
Earlier on July 26, a 6-year-old boy, Avyaan Surya died after drowning in a rainwater-filled pit in Greater Noida's Knowledge Park area. Avyaan, son of Kendriya Vidyalaya Vice Principal Siwan Yadav, was playing when fell into the pit. The 15-foot-deep pit was dug for boring purposes near Kaladham Society in the Knowledge Park police station area.
There was neither any barricade nor any warning sign around the pit, locals said. The victim's family, alleging negligence on the part of Greater Noida Authority officials. The deceased's family reached the police station and submitted a petition demanding action against the culprits.
